Our Story
Edgewater Professional Development, founded by Erin Barbus, draws upon over 20 years of experience in Michigan's publicly funded behavioral health system, particularly within Community Mental Health (CMH). Erin's career spans 10 years of direct clinical practice, both in office and home settings, followed by over a decade in supervisory and administrative roles.Throughout her tenure, Erin recognized a pressing need: how to most effectively train, support, empower, and retain high-quality behavioral healthcare providers within a system fraught with administrative burdens and unfunded mandates.
Edgewater is committed to addressing these challenges head-on. We provide comprehensive licensure supervision and educational support for emerging professionals, and we collaborate with organizations to enhance recruitment and retention strategies. Our aim is to ensure sustainable access to high-quality care and support the long-term well-being of our communities by overcoming barriers at the provider level. This includes tackling issues such as limited scopes of practice, practice management and work flow process, clinician burnout, and inconsistent supervisory support. By addressing these issues, we are working to mitigate the projected shortages of key behavioral health providers and improve overall service delivery.
At Edgewater, we embrace authenticity and connection as our core values. With our extensive background, we collaborate with individual clinicians, clinical teams, and organizational leaders. Together, we develop processes, skills, and supports aimed at fostering lasting, impactful clinical work.
